Rep. Doug Broxson’s proposed legislation, HB 431 – which gives oil companies the right to drill in the Blackwater state forest is designed to cater to the needs and desires of oil companies.  It will pollute one of the cleanest rivers in Florida and threaten a thriving tourism industry in Santa Rosa County.  Rep. Broxson is an elderly gentleman, from a small town and limited horizons and he may not be aware of the 21st Century technologies that are readily available, in use around the world and much more desirable environmentally and economically, such as solar and wind.

If Mr. Broxson would truly want to help his community, he will research modern energy policies and work with his colleagues in Tallahassee to update Florida’s energy policies.  To date, they largely support whatever the Florida electric power companies and oil companies demand.  It’s time for people to expect better of their leaders.
